Spousal Support (Alimony)
Spousal Support can be a more complex issue in California, and we recommend that you retain an attorney if you think you are owed or must pay Spousal Support or alimony. These are some basic facts about Spousal Support:
- In California, spousal support issues differ depending on how long the marriage lasted. If it lasted less than 10 years, the discussion is likely to be centered around temporary spousal support. If the marriage was longer than 10 years, spousal support can, in some cases, be indefinite.
- Temporary spousal support is generally considered to be 1/2 the length of the marriage, but circumstances and judgements can vary greatly. In some cases, there may be no spousal support and in some, more than expected. There are many factors taken into consideration by the court when considering a spousal support judgement.
